Japanese Blue Note "Masterpiece (Volume 4)" Series. Mono. Comes with insert with song credits and liner notes in Japanese on one side, and a listing with pictures and descriptions of titles in the "Masterpiece (Volume 4)" series on the other side. The material on this LP was originally slated for release after Sonny's "Cool Struttin'" album (being assigned catalog number Blue Note 1592), and was advertised in Blue Note's catalog as an upcoming release at the time. However, Blue Note 1592 was never released. These sessions finally saw the light of day in the late 70's as a Blue Note Japan release "Sonny Clark Quintets" (Blue Note Japan LNJ 70093) as well as a promotional album also titled "Sonny Clark Quintets" (Blue Note Japan BRP 8049). This album contains the same material. Side 1 was recorded January 5th, 1958. Side 2 was recorded December 8th, 1958. All tracks recorded in New York City.

Recorded December 8, 1957 (tracks B1 to B3) and January 5, 1958 (tracks A1 and A2). Sourced from the original master tapes and pressed on 200g vinyl with deep groove and flat edge. In faithful repro jacket with cap obi. Includes 12 x 12" insert with Japanese translation of original liner notes, and off-white repro die-cut inner sleeve. Vinyl in rice paper sleeve within its own white die-cut card jacket. All housed in a resealable outer poly bag.
