Notes
Mono reissue with "NEW YORK USA" and Liberty labels and "9M" on side 2 only, but with no P/"ear" stamp in runouts, indicating pressing after the 1966 sale of Blue Note to Liberty, using a leftover label printed before the sale and as well an old lacquer possibly dated 1958-59 (9M that disappeared in 1959, stamped RVG which started to be used in 1958 and -1 on both sides).
The featured RVG hand-etched in the deadwax, true to that era; however the RVG stamp as seen on this release was not in use until 1958 and was replaced with the VAN GELDER stamp in 1961, indicating this release is pressed from a second set of lacquers cut in that time frame ('58-'61) to be used for reissues. These lacquers can be more closely dated to approximately 1958 by looking at specific reissues of this title dating to 1958-1959 such as Volume 1 and Volume 1, which feature the same -1 inscribed in the runouts with stamped RVG on both sides.
I never came across a "Σ" in the runout on these Blue Note pressings, looks like a "Σ" but I cannot exclude the option that it's a rotated "M" which anyway is unusual.
The Liberty label is a Keystone one (well formed ®, reflex blue, small title above the artist name in large capital letters, "Side 1" with only the first cap).
No deep groove on either side. No mention of Liberty on sleeve but original Lexington address on rear slick.
The inner sleeve is dated Jul-Nov 1966 by the London Jazz Collector.
Recorded on May 9, 1952 (tracks A5, B1, B2, B3, B4, B6) and on April 20, 1953 (tracks A1, A2, A3, A4, A6, B5).
