Society Of Seven

SOS was a Hawaii-based rock and pop show band founded by Tony Ruvivar. The group achieved legendary status in Waikiki, opening at the Outrigger Hotel Main Showroom in 1969 with an initial lineup featuring Don Gay, Terry Lucido, Roberto Nievera, Stan Robertson, Danny Ruvivar, Tony Ruvivar Jr., and Bert Sagum. Their four-week engagement extended to four decades, establishing them as the longest-running act in a Waikiki showroom. The group released their debut album in 1970, capturing their energetic performances during this period.

Throughout their history, SOS experienced personnel changes due to members pursuing other opportunities and losses including Danny Ruvivar's death in 1971 and Terry Lucido's in 1982. Notable replacements included Gary Bautista, Lil Albert, master impressionist Jun Polistico, and Eddie Ramirez. The group's roster also featured contributions from numerous musicians including Randy Abellar, Tony Davich, Jun Estanislao, Roy Guerzo, Michael Layco, Vincent Mendoza, Mitch Morala, Billy Rivera, Alfredo Romero, Tony Anthony Lee Smith, Roy Venturina, and Bob Wilson.

In their final years, the core lineup comprised Tony Ruvivar, Bert Sagum, Hoku Low, and Wayne Wakai. SOS reunited for a three-night 40th anniversary show in 2009. The group received a Nā Hōkū Hanohano Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007 from the Hawaiʻi Academy of Recording Arts. Founder Tony Ruvivar passed away in July 2020 at age 79.
