Doji Morita

森田童子 was a Japanese singer-songwriter born January 15, 1952 in Tokyo. Active from 1975 to 1983, she released six studio albums, one live album, and four singles during her career before retiring. She was known for her introspective songwriting and distinctive vocal style.

森田童子 began performing professionally at age 22, making her debut in 1975. Her stage name derived from a reference to a classic Japanese fictional character. During her relatively brief but prolific recording period, she established herself as a significant figure in Japanese singer-songwriter music of the 1970s and early 1980s.

Following her retirement from music, 森田童子 withdrew from public life. A single newly recorded track appeared on a compilation release, but she never returned to live performance. She passed away on April 24, 2018.
