Gibson ES-335TDC 1968 #901438
Description
Gibson ES-335TDC 1968 #901438
The Gibson "ES-335" is the standard-bearer of semi-acoustic guitars that continues to captivate many players, combining traditional boxed resonance with the expansive sustain feel of a solid body. Since its release in 1958, it has established itself as a classic model beloved by numerous guitarists.
This time we have acquired a rare vintage piece, an "ES-335TDC" believed to be manufactured in 1968. The serial number is "901438" and the weight is 3.5kg.
While the main wood composition and other aspects have not changed significantly, the "ES-335" manufactured during this period is characterized by several distinctive features: "Made in USA" stamping on the back of the headstock without a volute, a narrow neck with a nut width of approximately 39.7mm, and small block inlays.
It is equipped with pickups bearing the "T" stamping, commonly known as "T Bucker (T-Top)". The pole pieces are gold and there is no pickup cover. The pots, toggle switches, and wiring have all been replaced. Additionally, the bridge has been changed from a Bigsby tailpiece to a stop tailpiece. There are also traces of filled holes, indicating it has undergone considerable modifications. The plastic saddle on the bridge was cracked, so we replaced it as well. The tuners are Kluson-type and we have not replaced them.
Since the original specifications had already been significantly altered, we have replaced the nut, bridge, and saddle components, and performed a refret for players who want to play this instrument going forward. This can be described as a condition suited for players seeking comfortable playability.
It is extremely difficult to determine how much is original and to identify the exact manufacturing year during this period, but once you play this instrument and experience its woody, airy sound with depth and dimension, you will immediately understand the difference from current production models. The pickups have slightly higher output and the treble is quite pronounced. While the narrow nut width offers ease of playability, the neck's grip feel, with its moderate thickness, is also unique and interesting. The faded cherry color is also fantastic.
This is a completely different beast from the reissues touted as providing a taste of traditional semi-acoustic sound. Please take this opportunity to experience the real thing.

・If there are notable buzzes, dead spots, or other issues that significantly affect playability, we will always note them. In the absence of such notations, we judge that there are no issues with play condition.
・Unless explicitly stated as "Original" or "Replaced," we do not make definitive statements regarding specifications or condition.
・Regarding the truss rod, from a product protection standpoint, we only check approximately 45 degrees in both the tightening and loosening directions. (When labeled "Adequate clearance," this indicates there is 45 degrees of clearance in both directions)
