Fender Jazz Bass 1969 #267779
Description
Fender Jazz Bass 1969 #267779
We have received a genuine vintage Fender Jazz Bass from 1969. The serial number on the neck plate is "267779," and the neck date is "2AUG69A." The weight is approximately 3.87kg.
While it may seem unusual for this period to have a natural color finish, natural finishes did not exist as standard catalog colors in 1969. Most 1969 natural finishes seen today have been "refinished to natural after the sunburst finish was stripped away in later years." Based on slight remnants of sunburst color visible in the neck pocket, this instrument appears to be one of those refinished examples.
Paired with a tortoiseshell pickguard, it has the distinctive presence of a vintage Fender. Beyond the sound, the texture and atmosphere evoke the character of the 1960s.
The body, presumed to be alder, achieves a well-balanced tone with punchy character and rich mid-bass. It is paired with a maple neck and a 20-fret rosewood fingerboard with block inlays. The playability characteristic of the era is one of its major attractions.
The pickups and pots have been replaced with nordstrand pickups NJ4. (We performed this replacement) This is a popular high-end pickup handwound by craftsmen who are well versed in vintage Fenders.
The bridge had deteriorated and the frets were worn down to the point of being unplayable when received. We replaced the bridge with a FENDER Pure Vintage 70s Jazz Bass Bridge Assembly, performed a refret (same size as original), replaced the nut, and completely replaced all tuning machines with new GOTOH FB30LP Ni L4 models. It has been reborn as a practical bass for players. (Some removed parts are included, but their operation is not guaranteed.)
The 60s Jazz Bass from its golden era is beloved by many artists and remains one of the dream instruments for all bassists. While this particular instrument is not suited for collectors due to numerous parts replacements, its sound combined with the Nordstrand pickups is exceptional. It can be used in various live settings immediately.
The finish and wear marks resulting from aging since those days possess a reality that relic finishes and reissues can never replicate. The 60s Jazz Bass is expected to appreciate in value going forward. At just 3.87kg, its light weight is another major attraction. We would like this instrument to be played by those who will use it actively and get great mileage out of it.
