Martin D-41 Standard 2020
Description
Martin D-41 Standard 2020
Among the many Martin guitars, the models bearing the 40 series numbers occupy a top position, all crafted with carefully selected materials and featuring a striking vertical logo on the headstock—a special series. The "D-41," which began production in 1969, is described as "a D-28 with the luxurious specs of a D-45," and its appeal lies in a unique sound not found in the D-45.
We have now received the Martin D-41 Standard 2020, a top-tier model in the standard series that fuses the powerful volume characteristic of dreadnoughts with elaborate decorative beauty at a high level.
The body features a 14-fret-join dreadnought size, with Sitka Spruce solid wood on the top and East Indian Rosewood solid wood on the sides and back. This creates a well-balanced tone that combines strength with delicacy. The forward shifted X bracing pattern delivers excellent responsiveness and rich sustain.
The neck is crafted from genuine mahogany, providing an exquisite grip and smooth, stress-free playability. The scale is approximately 645mm (25.4 inches), and the nut width is approximately 44.5mm (1 3/4 inches)—a design adapted to modern playing styles. The fingerboard and bridge feature ebony wood, designed to prioritize quick attack.
In terms of appearance, abalone rosette, top trim, and hexagon inlays create an elegant look. The antique white binding and gold open-gear tuning pegs pursue luxury down to every detail.
As of 2026, a new model of this type retails for approximately ¥913,000, making it quite a premium instrument. Compared to the higher-priced "D-45" and "OM-42," this model doesn't receive much search attention in the used market due to lower brand recognition, making it more affordable than the "D-45." For those unconcerned with inlay details, its slightly more understated character appeals to many.
The action is standard, and playability is outstanding. A modern, highly playable specification that receives praise from players of all styles. Style 41's dreadnought model combines luxury with sophistication. A guitar where you can fully enjoy the coveted vertical logo—our top recommendation. Personally, I prefer this over the "D-45"! The tone is undoubtedly top-tier Martin quality. A sound that anyone can trust in—this is what an acoustic guitar should be.
