GUILD D-55 2010
Description
GUILD D-55 2010
Along with Martin and Gibson, "Guild" is considered one of the three major brands of acoustic guitars, a guitar maker from the United States of America. Since the early 1960s, it has continued to manufacture dreadnought acoustic guitars, and has received high acclaim over many years for its balanced and rich sound.
What we have in stock this time is the "D-55" in dreadnought style, manufactured in 2010, a guitar produced at the New Hartford factory in Connecticut, even among Guild which has undergone various changes in production locations.
The "D55" is Guild's top-of-the-line model among flat-tops. It features an exceptionally bright-colored AAA-grade Sitka spruce top, with Indian rosewood for sides and back, and ebony for the fingerboard and bridge. Other features include a tortoiseshell pickguard, gold open-gear tuning pegs, and non-scalloped bracing.
Combined with the characteristic head logo are luxurious mother-of-pearl and abalone block position inlays; the overall appearance is luxurious but without being ostentatious. The saddle has been professionally crafted and the nut has been replaced by our in-house repair technician, so the current playing condition is excellent. The action is kept at a similarly low height as an electric guitar, maintaining a highly playable condition.
Additionally, it has been modified to an electro-acoustic specification, allowing volume and tone adjustment from beside the sound hole. (The model number and other details are unknown, please understand.) The tone control has a center click.
This guitar exhibits the powerful, characteristic chord-strumming tone typical of Guild, with an excellent resonance when played with the fingers, and is a high-quality acoustic guitar with no particular drawbacks. The impression is that it would cost about twice as much if it were from another brand. Furthermore, the finish ages beautifully over time, making the appearance quite attractive as well. Though the sound is fresh and new now, as it is played more, the sound seems likely to mature into a more developed tone. Even now, the acoustic volume is quite substantial.
It appears that among Guild enthusiasts, instruments from the older Westerly factory period are indeed more popular, but actually playing this guitar makes it very clear that excellent guitars are being made at Hartford as well. The brilliant quality of Martin and the warm texture of Gibson coexist in good balance here—this is definitely a guitar you'll want once you play it! It's also excellent as an electro-acoustic, truly befitting its status as the top-of-the-line model!
