Adam And The Ants

Adam and the Ants were an English punk and new wave band active from 1977 to 1982. Fronted by Adam Ant, the group existed in two distinct incarnations. The first lineup, formed in April 1977, achieved cult status during the transition from punk rock to post-punk and new wave, distinguished by their high camp aesthetic and theatrical stage performances. This iteration featured various members including Paul Flanagan, Lester Square, Mark Ryan, Johnny Bivouac, and Andy Warren, with the final lineup of Dave Barbarossa, Matthew Ashman, and Leigh Gorman departing in January 1980.

The second incarnation, active from February 1980 to March 1982, brought significant commercial success. This lineup featured guitarist Marco Pirroni, drummer-producer Chris Hughes, drummer Terry Lee Mail, and bassists Kevin Mooney and Gary Tibbs. The band became known for its innovative use of Burundi-style drumming, establishing a distinctive sound that achieved major chart success in the UK and internationally.

Marco Pirroni remained a key collaborator with Adam Ant throughout his subsequent solo career, continuing their partnership until after Adam Ant's comeback in 2010.
