Description
Monty's Guitars '53 Telecaster Raw Nickel Pickups Set
「Monty's Guitars」is a high-end pickup brand from London, UK. Founder「Matt Gleeson」thoroughly analyzed vintage pickups and rebuilt their tone for modern players, delivering outstanding performance across all genres. Not only are they meticulously hand-wound one by one, but the lineup also includes premium wiring kits and natural fretboard care wax.
MION has been captivated by Monty's exceptional technical prowess in rewinding and restoring vintage pickups, which are said to be extremely rare worldwide. As Japan's first authorized dealer to accept orders and officially sell Monty's Pickups, MION is committed to further promoting and selling Monty's products.
The「'53 Telecaster」set is a model in Monty's Telecaster pickup lineup that perfectly recreates the early 1950s Telecaster sound.
The distinctive characteristic of this pickup is its unique bright tone. The neck pickup possesses a soft, warm sound while simultaneously maintaining sufficient clarity and attack. Interestingly, this features nearly identical construction to the Broadcaster (the predecessor to the Telecaster) neck pickup, with output set slightly higher.
The bridge pickup features an ideal balance of twang, bite, and thickness, achieving a tone that is always bright yet never thin. This is essentially「the prototype of Telecaster bridge tone,」offering a versatile character suitable for any genre. Every position delivers clarity, excellent note definition, and outstanding string separation, with the middle position producing particularly beautiful harmony.
While this pickup follows the design generally known as「1952 specification,」among the numerous 1950s Telecasters that Monty's has actually restored and analyzed, one 1953 specimen was overwhelmingly superior. This set faithfully recreates that individual instrument.
There is minimal design difference from the 1952 model, but this set has been officially released as the「53 Tele Set.」
Early 1950s Telecasters were unique in that they mixed different wire gauge (thickness) sizes. The neck pickup uses thinner wire, resulting in the uncommon specification where the neck side has a higher DC resistance value than the bridge. Nevertheless, the volume balance is extremely carefully adjusted, ensuring no volume difference when switching pickups.
Like other Monty's pickups, only partial wax potting is applied. By deliberately leaving the center of the coil unwaxed, clarity and responsiveness are enhanced.
