Gibson LTD 1964 J-160E VS 1998
Description
Gibson LTD 1964 J-160E VS 1998
In 1954, Gibson released the legendary "J-160E" based on the request, "We want to produce loud volume even with an acoustic guitar." This is an electro-acoustic model equipped with the "P-90" pickup used in electric guitars. It's also famous for being beloved by The Beatles' John Lennon and George Harrison, and domestically by Yohito Kitakawa of Yuzu.
What we've just received in stock is the "LTD 1964 J-160E VS" manufactured in 1998.
This model is a limited production reissue of the 1964 specification J-160E known to be favored by John Lennon. It features a laminated spruce top, mahogany sides and back with mahogany neck, and rosewood fingerboard, adopting a 15-fret joint. Controls are simple: 1VOL and 1TONE. The neck has a well-proportioned C-shape with a reassuring thickness.
Like the original specification, it's equipped with an adjustable bridge. Furthermore, to prevent feedback when running through an amp, it uses a plywood spruce top, and with its ladder bracing structure, it's characterized by a percussive and clean sound. With its crisp, distinctive resonance, this tone is ideal for percussive rhythm guitar.
Although the presence of the pickup gives it somewhat of an electric feel, the output is of course Gibson's authentic acoustic sound. The tone during fingerpicking is also firm, with a pleasant quality that seems to cut through in a band sound!
The vintage sunburst color gives it both presence and character. This limited model from the '90s is particularly popular with Beatles fans, and since production numbers are low, if you've been eyeing it, we recommend grabbing it right away!
