Mas Hino Custom TL-Type
Description
Mas Hino Custom TL-Type
ATELIER Z (アトリエズィー), a domestic brand renowned for its high technical skill and design sensibility. In addition to manufacturing electric basses, they also produce electric guitars and have developed into a popular brand that enjoys strong trust from professional artists.
This time, we have received a Telecaster-type guitar manufactured by "Mas Hino," a brand produced by "MAS 日野 (Mas Hino NYC)" as a premium shop model of ATELIER Z. The weight is 2.78kg.
Hino has studied under "John Suhr" for four years starting in 1985. Subsequently, as the main builder for Pensa-Suhr, he has worked on guitars for Pat Metheny, Victor Bailey, Richard Bona, and others. Since 2000, he has been active as a Repair & Master Builder for ATELIER Z, and currently, he has established his own brand "Mas Hino NYC" in New York. He is a highly skilled builder.
Since this guitar does not come with a spec sheet or similar documentation, the wood type and specific details are unknown. However, it gives the impression of a domestic high-end guitar featuring a modern TL-shape with a 22-fret configuration equipped with two P90 pickups. The fretboard appears to be rosewood.
The controls are very simple, consisting of volume, tone, and a 5-way selector switch—it's unusual that it's not a 3-way. There are no taps or similar features. The tuning machines are GOTOH brand, and there is a "Mas Magic Tuning" sticker on the back of the headstock. This is positioned similarly to what is known as the Buzz Feiten Tuning System. The joint plate bears the "ATELIER Z" name, where Hino was formerly employed.
The pickups are DiMarzio's "DIMARZIO DP169 (VIRTUAL P90)." This is a model designed to output the sound characteristic of a "P90" pickup without hum noise. It employs the "Virtual Vintage" technology patented by DiMarzio, featuring a structure that combines two different coils. All the pole pieces arranged in two rows can be adjusted in height, allowing for fine-tuning of both tone and output.
With a sound and playability that adapts to any genre, this is truly a top-tier domestic instrument—one could say without exaggeration! Above all, at 2.78kg, it is wonderfully light. Even when playing while standing, fatigue is minimal, and the ease of transport and reduced shoulder strain are incomparable to other guitars. It pursues playability and offers excellent balance. The wood grain is exceptional as well, and despite featuring P90 pickups, the low-noise pickups are easy for anyone to use, allowing for stress-free playing. The case is also an ATELIER case marked as "Premium," giving it a very special feel!
