Greco EG59-60/L HS 1990 #0 9346
Description
Greco EG59-60/L HS 1990 #0 9346
Greco (グレコ), a private brand established by Kanda Shokai in 1960. In its early years, OEM manufacturing was conducted at Fuji String Instrument Manufacturing, producing high-quality copy models of Les Paul types, Strat types, Rickenbacker and Hofner violin bass types, and more. Currently, manufacturing is done at their own Dyna Musical Instruments or overseas OEM partners.
What we have received this time is what is believed to be a left-handed version "EG59-60/L" of a Les Paul type guitar, presumed to have been manufactured in 1990, which is what is commonly called Japan Vintage. The color is HS (Honey Sunburst), and the weight is 4.01kg.
The serial number is 5 digits reading "0 9346", and based on the pots and wiring, we have determined it to be from the 1990 "Mint Collection Series". The "072" in "504072" printed on the pot inside the cavity is a date code from the parts manufacturer (Noble/Teikoku Tsushin Kogyo) meaning "July 2nd week of 1990". One reason for this determination is also that gray "CP-C" capacitors were standardized and assembled as standard parts across the board from 1982 to 1990.
The wood features a maple top/mahogany body and mahogany neck, with a rosewood fretboard with 22 frets. It has an extremely playable slim medium shape, with an impression somewhere between C and D. The headstock bears only the "Greco" logo, with the letter "o" not cut off. Additionally, since there is no marking on the reverse side, it is presumed to be equipped with 2 original humbuckers called "Screamin". The tuning pegs are Kluson type, and the knobs are what are called vintage type. To faithfully reproduce Gibson details, white-bordered (white line) 2-point truss rod covers are installed. They all look quite new, but the replacement history is unknown.
The colors normally lined up in catalogs do not include honey burst tones, and since this is a very old model, it is unclear whether this was a special order from a music store or if it has faded. However, it is highly likely that it was originally HS color from the beginning.
Domestic Les Paul, Japan Vintage, with the high-quality sound and craftsmanship distinctive of Fujigen manufacturing—the ability is assured. It is particularly popular overseas as well. The left-handed model, which has far fewer units produced compared to right-handed versions, is an extremely premium existence, rarely appearing in the used market. While being a left-handed model, it is truly an ideal instrument for players pursuing authentic Les Paul structure and sound. For lefties, it may be the best value and most cost-effective Les Paul.
