Gibson Les Paul Studio Custom Shop Edition MT 1993
Description
Gibson Les Paul Studio Custom Shop Edition MT 1993
We have in stock an extremely rare limited edition and special specification model "Gibson Les Paul Studio (Custom Shop Edition) / Metallic Teal" manufactured by Gibson in the early 1990s.
It features a "Metallic Teal" color—an emerald green, bluish-green metallic finish—and weighs 4.41 kg.
This is a Custom Shop Edition special specification of the "Les Paul Studio," a model popular with a wide range of players as a reasonably priced instrument. From the era just before the independent Custom Shop was established, this instrument bears the special "Custom Shop Edition" stamp on the back of the neck that was applied to pieces made at the Nashville factory and other locations with "limited colors," "shop-exclusive custom specifications," and "limited hardware."
The Studio achieves its price point by adopting genuine Les Paul sound and high-end gold hardware while simplifying the construction by eliminating decorative elements such as binding. In the early 1990s, the Les Paul Studio, like the Les Paul Custom, used an ebony fretboard made of jet-black, hard premium wood during certain periods, and this example is the same. It delivers a sharp, fast-attack sound characteristic of the Les Paul Custom—a rich, high-quality tone.
A key point is that the pickups are the classic combination of what appear to be original 490R / 490T humbuckers. While they possess a sound character close to the 57 Classic, by slightly emphasizing the mid-high frequencies, they achieve a more modern humbucker sound. The potentiometers are also from 1993.
Despite being a cost-conscious model with minimalist decoration, the pickups and hardware use standard quality components. We actually preferred the playability and tone of this Studio to recent regular-line Les Paul Standards.
We have performed fret crowning at our shop, so the playing condition is excellent. Upon arrival, the escutcheon screws on the pickup were missing, and currently it is held in place by only a few screws. Additionally, because screws are stuck in certain areas and cannot be removed, the pickup itself cannot be detached. (Height adjustment is possible.) Please be aware of this. The original pickguard is also included, though its screw holes have become rusty.
The fretboard inlay is quite luxurious. It's almost like a "Tak Burst." The "GEM" series, which offered similar colors, uses P90 pickups, and the sense of luxury is quite different from this one.
