The "L Series" — possessing the time-honored craftsmanship and construction that Yamaha's acoustic instrument design has cultivated over many years to create guitars that meet and exceed the demands of modern guitarists. This time, we have received a 2004 model "LS26"!
2004 was precisely the 30th anniversary year of the L Series, and a major model change (renewal) was undertaken. This was the period when the guitar was reborn as an instrument better suited to modern music scenes and playing techniques.
Specifically, like wine, to create a guitar that is enjoyed and developed over 5 to 10 years of playing, scalloping was not adopted. Instead, the bridge size, material thickness, and bracing height were carefully considered, and the guitar was designed to maintain strength while improving the resonance of the top board.
It features an Engelmann Spruce top, Rosewood sides & back, Mahogany/Rosewood 5-piece neck, Ebony fingerboard & bridge, 44mm nut, and 650mm scale Yamaha Original Folk body.
Open-back gear tuners and maple binding showcase vintage-inspired design. While the LL has a body depth of 125mm, the LS is 120mm. It features a considerably deeper body compared to typical folk-type guitars. It excels in sound balance and is ideal for guitarists who frequently employ fingerpicking.
Produced before the A.R.E treatment process began, this series is recommended for those who don't prefer that particular sound. You can tell from the hardware and appearance that quality wood materials are used throughout, and the label clearly bears the name of "Hiroshi Sakurai," the developer of the new L Series. It's a reassuring high-end acoustic from Yamaha!
This guitar has the feel of being crafted by Japanese artisans, which is wonderful. Above all, it's versatile—whether played with fingers or pick, the sound is very clean. At this price point, this quality is truly reflective of Yamaha's top-tier domestic craftsmanship. The bright, well-resonating tone envelops the space beautifully.
It accommodates all playing styles and is also suitable for those who want to capture good sound with a microphone. Since higher grades suddenly become much more ornate in appearance, it's perfect for those seeking good sound with a modest, understated look. While it's said to be a guitar to be developed slowly, more than 20 years have passed and it has already matured. It's an acoustic guitar that makes you feel it will resonate even more as you continue to play it together.
