Santa Cruz OM Cutaway Custom #5344
Description
Santa Cruz OM Cutaway Custom #5344
Santa Cruz (サンタクルーズ) Guitar Company, an established manufacturer founded in 1976 by luthier Richard Hoover. By intentionally limiting production scale and implementing thorough quality control, it is widely recognized as one of the world's top-class acoustic guitar brands.
This time we have received the "OM Cutaway Custom," which adopts OM size and features a cutaway. It was purchased new in April 2019.
This instrument features custom specifications with a 644mm scale and approximately 45mm nut width. Since no specification sheet is included, the details of wood materials such as the top cannot be definitively determined, but the sides and back appear to be high-quality rosewood with beautiful grain. The delicate purfling and binding catch the eye. The position markers are modest small dots, and the headstock features the SCGC logo that symbolizes Santa Cruz. A tortoiseshell-pattern pickguard is used, and the pegs are upscale Waverly models.
The neck has an exquisite grip feel with nuances of a soft V-shape only in the low positions, with a smooth satin finish. It possesses the cohesive midrange characteristic of mahogany and the rich harmonic richness typical of Santa Cruz, delivering a brilliant yet sweet and mellow tone.
Despite its OM body, it boasts powerful low-end response, and achieves powerful unamplified sound whether played fingerstyle or with a pick stroke. It accommodates a wide range of uses from solo singing to accompaniment. The sound character is close to Martin's lineage, but the surprising balance and overwhelming playability are charms unique to Santa Cruz. The string action is low like an electric guitar, and with the cutaway, the design is stress-free all the way to high positions.
Certainly a high-priced model, but it offers quality and sound that more than justifies the price. With a Martin-like tone, it's rare to encounter a guitar that makes you want it this much. I'm confident that once you try it, you'll experience its greatness firsthand. Honestly, if I had the money, I'd want this one.
