Morris W-80
Description
MORRIS W-80
From beginner-oriented models priced at tens of thousands of yen to handmade models beloved by professional guitarists, and further to ultimate custom models featuring special woods and beautiful inlays, MORRIS (Morris) is an established acoustic guitar manufacturer that produces and ships over 6,000 guitars annually.
This time, we have received a Japanese-made Morris "W-80" produced from the 1970s through the 1980s. The serial number inside the body is "031381," and the back of the headstock reads "131021." The inspector on the label is marked as "S.Takagi," who is the S. Yairi factory manager. The manufacturing is believed to be from the late 1970s to around the 1980s.
The dreadnought-sized body features a spruce solid top with rosewood sides and a 3-piece rosewood back. The neck is mahogany, and the fingerboard and bridge are likely Indian rosewood. The tuning pegs feature the MORRIS logo.
With "TF" inscribed on both sides of the logo, it suggests manufacturing around 1976-1981. Mexican abalone fingerboard inlay is a distinctive feature. The soundhole ring and bridge pins are also quite elegant. An excellent instrument in both tone and appearance. The neck is made relatively thin, making it comfortable to grip, which is ideal for Japanese players. With a nut width of 43mm, it gives the impression of smooth playability.
With an appropriately priced range and a Martin D-45-style look, this is a top-tier Japanese-made model that will appeal to those who yearned for this model in the past, boasting superior craftsmanship.
