JAMES GOODALL DGC Grand Concert Model Master Sitka Spruce #6417
Description
JAMES GOODALL Guitars DGC Grand Concert Model Master Sitka Spruce #6417
An acoustic guitar brand "James Goodall" created by a master craftsman who has been making guitars since the 1970s. Works by this veteran luthier, who produces a small but high-quality selection of guitars, enjoy a devoted following in Japan as well.
This time we have received the "DGC Grand Concert Model". It was purchased new in October 2019.
This instrument features an impressive Sitka Spruce designated as "Master Sitka Spruce (Bear Claw Figure)", and "Premium Nicaraguan Rosewood" is used on the sides and back. While not a widely familiar name, this wood is often referred to as Cocobolo in guitar circles, and a high-quality piece with beautiful grain has been used. Featuring delicate ornamentation and traditional diamond position markers, the headstock is graced with the feather logo symbolic of Goodall. A clear-type pickguard is fitted, and the tuning pegs feature gold hardware from the top-of-the-line 510 model. The neck is relatively slim with a versatile C-shape grip feel. It boasts a smooth satin finish that is easy to play.
Though influenced by the absence of a cutaway, this model surprises with its large acoustic volume despite being the easy-to-hold Grand Concert size. It delivers powerful low-end response, and when played with a pick, the sound spreads with impressive volume. For fingerstyle playing, it captures delicate nuances faithfully, and the breadth of expression possible through the player's touch is extraordinary.
The overall sonic character is similar to Martin guitars, so there are few people who would dislike it. The action is low, comparable to electric guitars, making it easy to play.
With its bright and strong resonance across all positions, this is a guitar you'd want to play at full volume if your living environment permits. Regarding Goodall instruments, we find that all models have excellent string separation and great tone. We'd especially recommend this to those who love Martin, Larrivée, or Lowden guitars.
