Gibson L-7C 1960s
Description
Gibson L-7C 1960s
The Gibson "L-7C," which debuted in 1948 and was sold until 1972, is the cutaway version of the "L7." It is a popular model positioned as an upper-mid-tier instrument in Gibson's archtop guitar lineup.
This time, a "Gibson L-7C" from the 1960s, with an unknown manufacturing year, has arrived in stock. The weight is 2.67kg.
Only the serial number can no longer be read from the orange label (in fact, there are no traces of it having been written in the first place). The embossed serial on the back of the headstock is also completely unreadable due to paint, but the first character appears to be "6." For those starting with "6" without a "MADE IN USA" stamp, the guitar would have been manufactured in the 1960s, corresponding to 1962-64 or 1966-69. After 1965, the nut width became narrower at 40mm, whereas this one measures approximately 43mm, so it is likely an L-7C made around 1962-64.
The main features include the impressive acoustic resonance of a 17-inch body, double parallelogram fingerboard inlays, and Venetian cutaway. The wood materials are likely spruce top with maple back & sides and maple neck, with the fingerboard and bridge made of Brazilian rosewood or Indian rosewood. With vintage-style wild grain and natural weather checking that has developed over time, this is a wonderful instrument with a warm wood tone born from these characteristics. The rod cover marked "CUSTOM" is also distinctive—when a 1963 example of this model was brought in to our store previously, it also had this rod cover attached.
A pickup has been added after manufacture, with a gold-covered mini humbucker installed (no markings on the back, so the model number cannot be identified). A Japanese-made potentiometer is installed, with controls limited to volume only, and the jack is mounted beneath the pickguard. Additionally, the tuning pegs have been changed to Schaller gold-colored models.
We have performed a nut replacement, refret, and jack replacement. The playing condition is flawless, with low string action and currently in a very playable state. Having passed over 60 years since production, there is wear, scratches, minor dents, and weather checking, but these have become character marks and do not feel like drawbacks.
At first, I was anxious because the serial was unknown, but just by playing it, you immediately know it's a vintage Gibson. The sound is that different, and there is the kind of convincingness only old Gibsons possess. Truly excellent sound. It's at its best playing single notes with a firm tone, and the texture is lustrous. The sound when plugged into an amp is also superb—it would excel on stage and certainly shine in recording. The neck isn't too thick, making it very comfortable to play, and there's also a nice antique feel that would brighten your mood just having it in your home.
This is an exceptional guitar we truly hope those who don't worry too much about minor details as long as the sound and playability are good will pick up.

・If any buzzing, muted notes, or other issues that significantly impair playability are found, they will always be noted. In the absence of such notes, our store judges the playing condition to have no problems.
・In cases where "Original," "Replacement," or similar designations are not explicitly stated, we do not make definitive judgments regarding specifications or condition.
・Regarding the truss rod, we limit our inspection to approximately 45 degrees in both the tightening and loosening directions for product protection purposes. (When marked "adequate room," this indicates there is approximately 45 degrees of play in both directions.)
