Gibson Custom Shop 60th Anniversary J-185 Quilt Custom Vintage Sunburst 2011
A precious model announced in 2011 by Gibson Custom Shop, the "60th Anniversary J-185 Quilt Custom," produced in an extremely limited run of just 60 units. This guitar was handcrafted by a skilled luthier in Bozeman, Montana, and released as a special limited edition model for dealers who have earned the "Gibson Acoustic Five Star" designation.
This precious model that has arrived this time was crafted using the finest traditional tonewoods. The top features a rare solid Adirondack Red Spruce, while the back and sides are adorned with beautiful quilted maple. The finish is "Vintage Sunburst," completed with hand-applied nitrocellulose lacquer finishing.
The top employs a traditional "J-185" style X-bracing structure, reinforced with scalloped spruce bracing. The perimeter features multi-ply binding, a double ring rosette, multi-ply back binding, and a tortoiseshell pattern "J-185" pickguard—all characteristic of the finest aesthetic inherited from the original J-185.
The neck is carved from mahogany in a modified "V" shape that fits the hand naturally. It is secured with traditional compound dovetail joinery using hot hide glue. The rosewood fingerboard is inlaid with mother-of-pearl parallelogram inlays that beautifully complement the headstock logo and crown inlay.
The scale length is the popular 24-3/4 inches (approximately 628mm), with a nut width of 1.725 inches (approximately 43.8mm). The nut is made of bone (cattle bone), delivering the superior playability that fans have come to know and love.
This is an electro-acoustic model equipped with what appears to be an L.R. Baggs "ELEMENT" pickup, with volume control adjustable next to the sound hole.
A chance to own the "J-185," favored by many users including Woody Mann!
